PERSONALITY: "We are both, I am both"
This quote to me best describes Charming, he is both the man he was in the Enchanted Forest and the man he was in Storybrooke. Who that man is will be explained in this section. "I will always find you." One last quote before we begin, another quote that speaks to his true nature at the deepest part of himself.

Prince Charming is known by many names, David (Birth Name), Prince James (Impersonated to save his mother and her farm), David Nolan (Cursed), yet in each of these names he has been the same man. Yes like any character he evolves as time goes on, as relationships with others grow.
In his early years David was a simple man, content in his quiet life on the farm with his mother. He was lucky to be close with her and while money was tight, life was good. During these years he had one true wish, to marry for love not for an alliance. Even as they struggled he believed there was another way. When threatened by Bo Peep he learned to fight, he took charge of his life and his family. To him there was always a way and despite his mother's suggestions, there was a way to make ends meet while following his heart. It could be said he was a bit naive in these days but, it is also a part of who he is. David from the beginning believed in true love and following his heart. He believed that he would be able to find a way. One day his simple existence came screeching to a halt. He was made an offer from King George that he believed would be a way to save his home and his freedom to follow his heart. To do this he must leave home, take on the name of the King's dead son and pretend to slay a dragon. Simple or so he thinks, his time as Prince James is meant to be brief and in those brief moments he learns that he is not just a man who is strong of heart and will. He is a man with great courage and a man who does not like to pretend. Being put in his place did rankle his pride when he was told to stand back and let the fighters fight. In the end, it was he who had to face the dragon and he did, showing a quick thinking ability and survival instinct fed by a deep courage that even he had not fully discovered till then. He believes his time as Prince James over, even when Midas offers his daughter's hand in marriage he is set to refuse. That is until the King threatens his mother if he does. It is this moment when he finds himself torn, between his wants and his responsibilities. The latter wins out and David becomes Prince James for more than a few days, he accepts it for life and he accepts marrying a woman he does not love. One he is not even sure he likes because he will not let his mother suffer for him. When he goes to say goodbye to his mother we see his heart, his desire to do the right thing even if he does seem to falter in that later on. He knows he is hurting her but he is keeping her safe and for him that matters most. He will give everything for that and at this point he believes he is. Despite that, we find that Prince James as he is now known tries to be optimistic and make the most of his situation. Wanting to do good, even making the effort to make his bride to be happy, as difficult as that may be. Then he takes a fateful carriage ride and once again, fate changes his life.

This is the day he meets a bandit and when she makes off with his jewel pouch which contains his mother's ring he vows to find her. When he does fate takes hold and he becomes not just Prince James but Prince Charming a man who falls in love with a woman. At the worst possible time. During the time to come he is put to the test, his loyalty, his heart, his wants, they all come clashing inside of him and we watch him fight for who he is on the inside rather than sacrifice himself. We see him willing to help another couple find love even at peril to himself when he thinks his own love out of his grasp. This time in his life shows us that he is a hero, rather he sees himself that way or not. He is a man willing to fight for a happy ending not only for himself but for everyone. No matter if that fight takes years and years to complete, to him it is a fight worth fighting.

Even when he is cursed and his memories taken from him, he still finds his love, he still believes in fighting for what is right and what is wrong, even if he does make some less than stellar decisions during that time, at his core he is still Prince Charming, a good man, a man who is strong of character. When he was cursed to think he was David Nolan he battled between the memories he was given and what his heart felt. In this time we learn that Charming can be conflicted, fearful, uncertain even. He still longed to do the right thing but found himself torn between what that was. As David he wanted to protect everyone and this made him tell lies and try to cover his love for Mary Margaret so as not to hurt Katherine who he thought was his wife. During this time the part of him that was true, that was Prince Charming is tested as he makes mistakes that lead to all the people he cares about being hurt. It can be said that in this respect David is different than Charming; while the Prince can seem to be confident at all times and he usually is, David is conflicted and uncertain a lot of the time. This taught Charming to question himself, to truly look at his motivations; in the end he did some things that were not exactly moral but he learned to look deeper and it taught him once again to follow his heart. What all this amounts to is simple, if lengthy.

Charming is a man of honor, when tested he will do the right thing even at peril to himself. He will fight time and again for what is right, for his family, for his love, for his friends, for his kingdom, for justice because these are the things which matter most to him. He is a man with a deep heart, he wants not only his own happiness but the happiness of others and he is willing to help them find it in any way he can. A man with a deep hope, so much so that it is a part of who he is, he believes no matter what odds he is faced with he can win. That if the cause is just and true, good will always win. That he and his true love with always be together, even when kept apart, he never doubts that they too will find their happy ending. A man willing to sacrifice for the ones he loves, he will protect his family at any cost. While he cares about everyone and is willing to fight for them, his family is what is most important to him. They are his heart. He may be blunt in his words but he can speak to people in a way that inspires hope and confidence in them, the writer believes this to be because he himself is filled with both. Fears are a natural part of any one, what makes him different is that he faces them. He does what must be done and he believes, truly believes in the love he has had found and the world they are fighting to build. Quick to help others, Charming is not the type of man who will turn his back on someone in need. If he can save an innocent or help a good person find what they are looking for, he will. He will raise his sword, his voice, his fist, whatever is needed to fight for truth, to fight for justice, to simply fight for what is right. In the end, rather you call him David, Charming, James, he is a man of honor, a man of courage, a man of his heart. A true Prince, with a true heart who follows it and does what he believes to be right. A man with hope, even in the face of letting his newborn daughter go, he has hope, he has belief that it will all be alright in the end and this does not waver. He is a man who may not use pretty words, but he uses true words and his courage and strength inspire others to follow him, to believe in him. I know all this makes him seem like a serious fellow and when it is called for he is. Let us not forget however that he is also a man with a sense of humor, who enjoys laughing, he grasps life and lives it to the fullest, taking what small happy moments he can and using them to remain optimistic. A man who finds exhilaration in adventure.

Now I spoke earlier of relationships and there are a few I feel I need to touch on in particular, after all they are in this game and important to him.

Prince Charming and Snow White; To this writer their story is the epitome of true love. His heart is hers, there is no other who can take her place. His loyalty to her is infallible and he will never give up on her. Nor will he ever accept being kept from her, no matter what curse has come their way he has always found her and he always will. At her side is his place in this world, believing in her is part of what makes him strong. When her hope wavers he will always find a way to remind her of who she is, what she can do. They have been torn apart, had their memories stripped from them and yet, they remain as two halves of one whole. Never will he stray, never for even a moment will he stop loving her. Because her love and his love for her is a part of who he is at his deepest depths. No matter the cost to himself he will find her, he will protect her, he will do what ever he must to be with her, to save her.

Prince Charming and Henry Mills; Henry is his grandson and he could not be prouder. During the time when Emma and Snow were in the Enchanted Forest, Charming and Henry were able to grow closer. He took care of the boy and he loves him as fiercely as he does his daughter and wife. He looks forward to teaching Henry the things he was not able to teach Emma, he is brokenhearted when he thinks that chance taken away from him. Do not let the fact the he has only known of Henry a short time fool you, he will fight as fiercely for him as he would his daughter or wife. Henry is his grandson and Charming loves him as deeply as he does the other two. He wants to not only protect Henry but see him grow into the amazing man he will become.

COURT ALLIANCE & REASONING: The Amethyst Circle; I have chosen this court for Charming because while he is a fighter he does not adhere to what is expected of him. He believes there is always a way and he works to find it. A strong man with a good sense of right or wrong he is still a man with a firm belief in magic (even if he can not use it) and in fate. He refuses to be bound by what others expect of him from the time he is brought from his home to King George's court and through out the rest of his life. He makes his path and follows his heart, no matter what the path may entitle. He believes in fighting for their freedom because it is what's right. He does not adhere to the rules of others unless those rules line up with his own views and values. He is always thinking through each situation not merely accepting it as fact because to him there is always a way and that belief and speculation are what make me believe he would be right in this Court. He would need a place where he is free to question and do things in a non-traditional way because some time tradition is meant to be broken. The world can not move forward if it is just accepted to be the way it is. It must be made a different world and the only way to do that is to think outside of the box.

ABILITIES:
Expert Swordsman; Taught by Anna of Arrendale. He learned the skill when he wanted to protect his family and his farm.

High level Hand to Hand combat; Some of this comes from his training with Anna and the rest comes from experience. He has been in more than one fight with not so good odds.

Excellent Leadership skill; This is a skill he acquired at Snow White's side, it is a natural ability that he did not know was there but knowing her. Being with her brought out the best in him.

Competent tracking skill; A skill learned from keeping track of stray farm animals and later sharpened as he spent more than one day on an adventure in the woods questing

Quick thinking; A natural talent he has an uncanny ability to think outside the box and survive when others would perish.

Competent Wood Survival skill; This skill is born of necessity, time spent trekking through the Enchanted Forest and trying to elude King George's men after he abandons the marriage to Abigail.
